I am just about to finish Thomas Hardy’s Jude the Obscure, and I can’t help but feel anxious because I know that Hardy being the tragical author he is, the ending will be very shocking and angsty. I couldn’t stop thinking about Tess of the D’Urbervilles when I finished it, and sometimes I still ponder about the sequence of events. Jude has offered from jaw-dropping moments (I can think of one off the top of my head), and I’m sure that even though you kind of experience masochism reading Hardy’s work, I think that Jude The Obscure is worth the time and read.
When I read books, I like thinking of the characters being played by actual actors (this is kind of weird and I’m well aware of that). So this is, I guess, the cast of my version of Jude The Obscure.
Jude Fawley – Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Arabella – Scarlett Johansson
Sue – Keira Knightley
Richard Phillotson – Clive Owen
These are really the ‘Big Four,’ so I don’t think I have to think of anyone else to depict these well-written out characters of this agonizing book.
